Cartagena, the historic Spanish naval port, is the location for the Espanola del Zinc smelter. It used to be the site for a large lead smelter – the chimney still stands.

The Salton Sea area of Southern California. Geothermal power generation gives rise to residual zinc in the brine, which is recovered.
